A facial tissue box is both a package and part of the dispensing experience. Begin with the actual folded tissue stack and the intended carton shape, rather than selecting board by appearance alone. A physical mock-up gives the box supplier, packing team and brand owner a common basis for discussing fit and presentation.
Design around the filled tissue stack
Record stack length, width, height and sheet count in the condition that will enter the carton. Agree the box dimensions with the supplier, distinguishing internal space from outside dimensions. Test the opening size and position with the selected tissue fold; a box that looks correct when empty still needs a filled-pack evaluation.
Katrin's facial tissue information describes boxes that present tissues one at a time. Use that intended behaviour as a practical trial question: can users start the pack, withdraw tissues comfortably and continue through the remaining stack?
Specify board and artwork together
Ask the carton supplier to recommend a board grade and construction for the proposed size and packing process. Obtain a technical data sheet and actual unprinted and printed samples. Review stiffness, surface appearance, creasing and glue performance on the finished box instead of choosing a basis weight without considering the whole design.
Smurfit Westrock's paperboard packaging overview treats print, structural design and automation compatibility as parts of a packaging solution. For your own carton, agree the dieline, print orientation, colour reference, barcode location and text before releasing artwork. Do not present a mock-up as an already approved production pack.
Check cartoning and dispensing
Trial the actual blank or supplied carton format on the intended equipment. Record erection, tissue insertion, flap closure and finished carton appearance. Check for crushed corners, poor alignment or closure problems, then inspect the tissues after opening the pack.
- Verify the stack fits without an unapproved change to the tissue product.
- Check the opening feature and any added dispensing film.
- Compare first, middle and final tissue withdrawal.
- Retain the trial settings and approved filled sample.
Keep a controlled packaging specification
File the final dieline, board grade, artwork version and closure requirements together. Ask the supplier to flag substitutions before manufacture, including changes to the board, opening or adhesive arrangement. Evaluate transport in the intended outer carton as a separate step; an attractive retail box alone does not demonstrate shipping performance.
Send DOUBLE your folded tissue sample, box mock-up and intended cartoning format to discuss the equipment interface and sample trial.
