Tissue Packaging Troubleshooting Guide for Stable Production

Why Tissue Packaging Runs Unstable

Unstable packaging directly affects the appearance of finished tissue, packing efficiency, and final product quality. When the packaging process is not smooth, products may shift, wrinkle, jam on the conveyor, or show inconsistent sealing results. This issue can appear across facial tissue, napkin tissue, hand towels, toilet paper, and other tissue converting lines. In most cases, the root cause is related to product dimensions, feeding position, film tension, sealing conditions, or machine adjustment.

1. Start With Product Size and Shape Stability

Before adjusting the packaging machine, confirm that the tissue product itself is consistent. If the stack, roll, or bundle size varies during production, the packaging process will also become unstable. Operators should verify the following points:

  • Finished product dimensions are consistent throughout the run.
  • Tissue stacks are neat and evenly compressed.
  • Roll shape is stable and not deformed.
  • Product enters the packaging section in a straight, centered path.
  • Product is neither too loose nor over-compressed.

If the product is unstable before it reaches the packaging section, the final pack cannot be expected to run smoothly.

2. Inspect Product Feeding and Alignment

Unstable feeding is one of the most frequent causes of packaging interruptions. If the product shifts on the conveyor or enters the packaging area at the wrong angle, the film may wrap unevenly or the product may jam. Check that the conveyor, pushing device, and guide rails are aligned correctly. Also, remove any paper scraps or foreign objects that could obstruct product movement.

3. Verify Packaging Film Tension and Path

When the packaging film does not feed smoothly, the finished pack may show wrinkles, shifting, or poor seals. Inspect whether the film roll is mounted correctly, whether film tension is stable, and whether the film path is clean. If the film drifts to one side, check the guide position first before changing tension settings.

4. Check Sealing Temperature, Pressure, and Position

Poor sealing results in loose packs, open edges, or an unattractive finish. Sealing quality is influenced by temperature, pressure, film overlap position, and product movement during the seal cycle. Operators should confirm that the seal is even across the pack, the film is properly overlapped, and the product remains stationary during sealing.

5. Evaluate Machine Speed and Adjustment Order

At higher running speeds, minor feeding or film issues become more visible. If packaging becomes smoother after reducing speed, the problem is likely related to feeding rhythm, film tension, or a specific machine adjustment. Avoid changing multiple settings at once. Adjust one parameter, observe the result, and then proceed to the next check.

6. Key Information to Record Before Contacting Support

If packaging remains unstable after completing the basic checks, record the following details before contacting technical support. This information helps identify whether the issue is related to the product, film, or machine settings.

  • Product type (e.g., facial tissue, napkin, hand towel, toilet roll).
  • Packaging style (e.g., flow wrap, shrink wrap, bundle pack).
  • Exact product dimensions.
  • Film type and thickness.
  • Specific location where the problem occurs on the line.
  • Actual running speed.
  • Photos of the defective finished packs.
  • Video of the packaging process.
  • Any recent changes to product, film, or machine settings.
